Essay Writing II Reflective Portfolio Guidelines
Initial Expectations
You will explain what you were expecting to learn by taking this course and whether the content of the course met your expectations for academic writing. You will also explain how the previous writing courses you have taken at QU have contributed to your learning in this course. This will be your initial and more general reflection on your learning.
Selected Course Work
In this part, you will reflect on 4-5 completed assignments that you have selected from your course work. You will provide hyperlinks to these selected course work through your Google Drive. That means you will have to collect the work you want to reflect on in a Google doc folder, name each work clearly and provide a hyperlink here within your reflective text while mentioning them. While reflecting on each assignment, you will explain:
- how/to what extent completing the selected assignments has helped you fulfill the course learning outcomes (CLOs) - You can find the CLOs in the course syllabus and refer to them by their numbers. E.g. CLO-1
- your struggles with the assignments
- the things that helped you to overcome your struggles (e.g. homework, in-class activities, readings)
- the things that you would change to boost your performance if you were given another chance
Growing as a Writer
You will briefly explain how the course helped you to grow as a writer in an academic setting. This will be your final reflection on your learning journey emphasizing your strengths and weaknesses in terms of academic writing. Do not forget to elaborate on how you will take action to excel at your academic writing skills considering your weaknesses.
You can benefit from Gibbs' (1998) reflective cycle below:
Tips to complete your reflective portfolio:
- You will complete your portfolio using Google Blogger (that you can find in your Google apps after signing in). Yet, you have the freedom to use another platform that you are already familiar with.
- Do not forget to add images/visuals (or even videos if you created any during the course) as this is a multimodal portfolio.
- Make sure your design is relevant and easy to follow.
- Your reflection will be between 800-1000 words.
- This is your story of learning process, so be generous with your critical thinking and writing.
